The City Economic Enterprise Department (CEED)

Sangguniang Panglungsod Resolution No. 724, City Ordinance No. 19, Article IV, Section 8 – An ordinance more popularly known as “The Economic Enterprise Code of the City of Calapan”mandated the creation of the City Economic Enterprise Department (CEED) who will have direct administration, supervision, maintenance, and control over all economic enterprises of the city. The Department is tasked with managing the New Calapan City Public Market, the Calapan City Public Cemetery, the Calapan City Recreational and Zoological Park. The Calapan City Convention Center is also being operated under the direct supervision of CEED in the light of City Ordinance No. 121, Series of 2023. In addition, the “Botika ng Bayan” was designated as one of the economic enterprises under the supervision of CEED by virtue of City Economic Enterprise Management Board Resolution No. 03, Series of 2022.

The City Economic Enterprise Department envisions to become self-reliant and self-sustaining by engaging in viable and stable economic enterprises that provide a wide range of opportunities to uplift the socio-economic well-being of its constituents, improve fiscal management, and enhance good governance. The CEED envisions itself as a business-friendly and financially stable organization, manned by honest, disciplined, and competent employees working towards the city’s economic development. In pursuit of this vision, the department is committed to generating income by providing prompt and efficient delivery of services, fair, honest, and transparent governance for the progress of the city.

The New Calapan City Public Market, located in Barangay San Vicente North, serves as the city’s primary center of commerce and trade. It caters to a variety of vendors offering fresh produce, meats, seafood, dry goods, and other essential commodities. As one of the city’s major economic hubs, the market supports local livelihoods, encourages small businesses and ensures public access to affordable and quality products.

The Calapan City Public Cemetery, situated in Barangays Lalud and Tawiran, offers accessible and dignified interment services to the people of Calapan. Managed with respect and order, the cemetery provides burial lot allocation, coordination of interment activities, and regular maintenance of the grounds, ensuring a clean and solemn environment that honors the memory of the departed.

The Calapan City Recreational and Zoological Park, commonly known as Bulusan Park, is a family-friendly destination that combines recreation, environmental education, and leisure. The park features a mini-zoo with various animal species, landscaped open spaces, and a multi-purpose Pavilion used for various events, and community gatherings.

The Calapan City Convention Center, located in Barangay Tawiran, features fully air-conditioned rooms equipped with essential amenities. It can accommodate both small and large gatherings and serves as a venue for a wide range of events, including conferences, seminars, official programs, and private functions.

The “Botika ng Bayan” located at Calapan Public Market aims at delivering affordable medicines to the public. It plays a vital role in supporting the city’s public health programs by ensuring the availability of essential generic and over-the-counter medicines at low cost. It is manned by a registered pharmacist and pharmacy assistants to ensure proper dispensing, patient guidance, and compliance with regulatory standards.
